Stage 25: Kautokeino – Alta, 2015-08-28

Today it was dark, windy and a little rainy. I didn’t sleep very well. It got late last night when I caught up with the blog entries and when I tried stuff to recover the lost Garmin track. Moreover, some animal was rustling on, around, and under the tent for the whole night. Every time I looked, there was nothing to see, but the noises never stopped. In the morning when I put down the tent, a little lemming was running from under it to the next bush. This little suicidal bastard also shat on one of my bags.

The last night and today, I used the tent’s guy lines for the first time, in order to make it more wind stable. The days before, I didn’t even put in all tent pegs.

The scenery today became more and more breathtaking with every kilometre. It is really hard to capture the impression on photos. The dimensions get lost somehow, and what remains is only a weak reflection of what is so much better when seen with your own eyes.

There were some breathtaking climbs as well.

I probably saw over 50 Reindeer today. They really don’t care much about traffic. They watch with little attention, but get sceptical and eventually run away as soon as you get slower and stop to take a photo.

Towards the end of the stage, there was an epic descent through a canyon. What an experience. Over 100 m high rock faces on both sides. Riding on the up to 8 % steep roads with over 50 km/h. The hydraulic rim brakes had some real work to do.image

That was the only, but by far not most epic part, where I could safely do a photo stop.

At the camp site I proceeded as usual. I opened the whole egg powder for dinner. That’s basically 10 to 12 eggs, freeze dried to 135 g of yellow powder. Perfect for scrambled eggs. Just add water and fry it.

Together with salami, 250 g of wok noodles and a bag of wok sauce, this was my carb and protein rich foundation for tomorrow.

Next stage is 118 km to Olderfjord.
